PRIVATE COMMISSIONS
A painting can capture something uniquely personal, a familiar face, a much-loved animal, or a place that holds particular meaning. I welcome private commissions to create an original painting with a personal story at its heart.
You may already know exactly what you would like painted, or simply have an idea that you would like to explore. I will discuss the subject with you, along with the preferred size, composition and any particular thoughts or references you may have.
Depending on the nature of the commission, the painting may be developed from life, from suitable photographs, or from a combination of reference material. For landscapes and places, this might include your own photographs alongside additional visual references.
If you are considering commissioning a painting, please get in touch. There is no need to have every detail decided, an initial conversation is often the best place to start. Once the subject, size and approach have been agreed, I will confirm the price and an anticipated timeframe before beginning the painting. Although please note, commissions will be subject to availability at the time.

The cost will depend on the size, subject and complexity of the painting. Once the initial requirements have been discussed, I will provide a quote before any work begins.

A good reference photograph can be very helpful. For portraits and animals in particular, I can advise on the type and quality of photographs that will work best.

Yes. If you have a particular size or hanging location in mind, this can form part of the initial discussion. I can also recommend an appropriate scale based on the subject and composition.

Timescales vary depending on the complexity of the painting and any pre-existing commitments. An anticipated timeframe will be discussed and agreed before the commission begins.

Absolutely. A commissioned painting can make a particularly personal gift. If it is required for a birthday, anniversary or another occasion, please mention the date when enquiring so I can advise on timing.

Framing can be discussed as part of the commission. Where appropriate, I can advise on a frame that complements both the painting and its intended setting.

Simply get in touch with a little information about what you have in mind. You can include photographs or other references if you have them, but they are not essential for the first conversation.

Yes. Once the details of the commission have been agreed, a 50% deposit is requested to secure the commission, procure the materials and allow work to begin. The remaining balance is payable on completion of the painting, prior to collection or delivery.

Completed paintings can either be collected in person or carefully packaged and shipped to you via Royal Mail.
Postage and packaging costs are additional and will be confirmed prior to dispatch. Where shipping is required, paintings will be sent using the tracked delivery service.
